Diane's thoughts about Bill and the Campaign:
Bill and I committed ourselves to this campaign because we are concerned about the future of our country and our planet. We have had many opportunities because of the sacrifices made by previous generations. Pursuing careers in medicine and education, we hoped to make a difference in the lives of others on a personal level. We grew up believing that the United States of America was a beacon of hope in the world. Sadly, though, because of the lack of ethics, poor leadership, and self-serving practices of many of the people in our government today, the next generation will inherit a world threatened by global warming and other degradation of the environment, war and terrorism, and a staggering national debt.
When fellow citizens came to Bill earlier this year to ask him to run for Congress to provide better leadership for our country, we decided that he had no choice but to enter the race. I've described Bill, the man I've been married to for 38 years, as "99%" perfect. The campaign for Congress has been a sacrifice in some ways, but has enriched our lives with many new, wonderful friends who have provide us with incredible support and inspiration.
Bill's thoughts about Diane:
Diane is the love and joy of my life. I call her a "miracle worker." She teaches deaf children to talk and listen with the aid of sophisticated hearing aids and cochlear implants at the Children's Choice for Hearing and Talking (CCHAT) Center in Sacramento. But she not only teaches the kids, she brings hope and joy to the children and their families.
Diane has been an unbelievable support in my campaign for Congress, putting up with my crazy schedule and all the ups and downs that a Congressional campaign entails. She teaches at the CCHAT Center by day and campaigns with me on evenings and weekends. We have been partners in life for 38 years, and we remain partners in this endeavor to take back our democracy.
Bill on Diane's Music:
I tease Diane about being the music teacher at a school for the deaf, but in fact, music is important in helping deaf children learn rhythm and intonation. Diane has a beautiful voice and a talent for writing songs and lyrics that appeal to children but that also have an important message for adults. I am pleased to share some of her songs with our supporters on this website. Our close friends, Steve and Lin Walker, lent their musical talents to recording these songs, and Annie and Jeff helped too.
