Campaign Finance Reform ("Clean Money")

Despite recent changes in campaign finance laws, special interests continue to be able to contribute large sums of money, either directly or indirectly, to political candidates who, if elected, vote all too often in the interests of their big contributors, not in the best interests of their constituents. Grassroots candidates such as myself find ourselves at a significant disadvantage in running against opponents who receive large sums of money from special interests. I believe that the best solution to this problem is public financing of political campaigns (referred to as "Clean Money"). Public financing of political campaigns allows all qualified candidates, not just the wealthy, to run, and reduces the influence of special interests. "Clean Money" laws have been adopted at the state level in Maine and Arizona, with good success, and a "Clean Money" bill (AB 583) is in progress in the California Legislature. As a U.S. Congressman, I will represent my constituents, not special interests, and I will work for public financing of Congressional and Presidential campaigns.
