Addressing the Life Threats (see link at bottom of page for Bill's positions on other issues)
My training and experience, both as a Marine reconnaissance patrol leader in Vietnam and as an emergency physician for the past 24 years, have conditioned me to first and foremost identify and address life-threatening situations. I will follow this same approach as a U.S. Congressman.
I see a life threat in Iraq, where innocent people, including U.S. servicemen and women, are being killed every day. I see a life threat in our health care system under which Americans are not only suffering serious illness and injury, but are literally dying because of lack of access to affordable medical treatment and preventive care. I see a life threat to our natural environment from the threat of global warming and the extinction of three species every hour. And I see a life threat to our democracy, with a presidential administration that has violated U.S. and international law, the U.S. Constitution, and the public trust, and a Congress that has failed to adequately check these abuses of power.
As the Representative of California’s 3rd Congressional District, I will work to bring our troops home promptly, safely, and honorably from Iraq. I will work to provide affordable health care for all Americans. I will work to protect and preserve our precious natural resources. And I will do everything within my power to uphold the principles upon which our country was founded and to restore government of the people, by the people, and for the people in the United States of America.
