United Nations
At the end of World War II, the leaders of the United States worked harder than those of any other country in the world to establish the United Nations. I believe that it is both tragic and ironic that today, the Bush Administration is working harder than the leaders of any other country to undermine the credibility and effectiveness of the UN. The United Nations weapons inspectors were exactly right about Iraq's alleged weapons of mass destruction - the Bush Administration was dead wrong. The UN is not perfect, and the UN Charter needs to be improved, just like the U.S. Constitution needed to be improved with later amendments. I believe, though, that an improved UN is our best hope for world peace. As a Congressman, I will work toward making the U.S. a good partner with the other countries of the world and toward making the UN an effective world government.
